City areas
Cagnes is a wonderful blend of old and new. In fact the city is divided into three parts, Haut de Cagnes, the old city, Le Cros de Cagnes, the seaport, and the center of town, Cagnes-Ville. Each has its own distinctive flair and importance.
Le Cros de Cagnes has its own railway station and is a very important port city of France. Interestingly,
the port is only used by fisherman. If you enjoy a nice, quiet beach, there is a fine one here. Also, for
seafood lovers, there are numerous seafood restaurants that serve the freshest seafood around
because the chefs can buy straight off the ships. The greatest thing about this area is that it is not overcrowded with tourists even during the high season.
If you like history you must visit Haut de Cagnes because this is the old part of city. There is a chateau located on the top of a hill that offers the most exquisite view of the city. The chateau was built by the Grimaldi family of Monaco in 1309. You cannot drive a car into the old city so be prepared to walk. The streets are very old and narrow. This part of the city seems truly lost in time.
